TIMMERMAN, RAYMOND JOSEPH M.D. ’44, age 90, of Fort Thomas passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 in Charlottesville VA. Born on August 31, 1926 in Covington KY to the late Raymond T. and Loretta Knoebber Timmerman, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Winger. Dr. Timmerman is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Maria A. Timmerman and children Anne Timmerman M.D. of Providence RI, Janet Lark M.D. of Myrtle Beach SC, Caroline Timmerman M.D. of Fairbanks AK, and David Timmerman ’91 AIA of Charlottesville VA. He was a loving grandfather of 4 grandchildren Mary Claire Lark, Anna Lark, Sara Lark and Beatrix May Timmerman. Raised in Bellevue KY, Raymond attended Sacred Heart Grade School. One of our favorite family stories recalls a Sister Pancratia often pointing him out of the classroom for talking too much. He graduated from St. Xavier H.S. in 1944 and was drafted into the Navy shortly thereafter at the end of WWII. Raymond attended college and then medical school both at the University of Cincinnati. He graduated in 1951 fulfilling his life-long dream since the age of 12 of becoming a physician. After spending time at the Cincinnati General Hospital, Raymond was again drafted and was appointed captain in the Air Force as flight surgeon. He was stationed with the 38th TAC at the Laon-Couvron Base in France and traveled as far as Northern Africa on flight missions. This memorable time fostered his life-long love of French culture. After an honorable discharge, Raymond was granted a Fellowship through the Harvard Medical School at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston, MA. There he met his wife Maria and they began their happy marriage on June 21, 1958. They moved back to Fort Thomas where Raymond began a practice in internal medicine and gastroenterology. Raymond remained an accomplished and dedicated physician and never lost his love of helping people through his final years. He volunteered on numerous medical missions to Haiti and Honduras. He was a member of the Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity and the American College of Physicians. Raymond was an avid traveler and passionate about protecting the natural environment. His family remembers his humility, open-heartedness and one-of-a-kind personality. He was committed to his religion and family and always embraced those around him.
